Liberty Keeps Watch
"Grief does not disappear because years pass. Neither does love."
Behind her, two beams rise through the darkness. Below is absence. Above is light.
At her feet, a single rose.
Not a wreath, not an arrangement — one stem, laid by one pair of hands, for someone whose chair sits empty. Thousands is a figure in a headline. This is a Tuesday morning that never ended.
The candles remind us that remembrance is personal. Someone came. Someone remembered. Someone lit a flame.
This piece honors those who were lost, those who ran toward danger, those who survived, and every life forever changed by September 11, 2001.
Liberty can mourn and still be strong. She can bow her head without surrendering.
And over twenty-five years later, she is still there — still remembering, still keeping watch, still holding America.
Created in remembrance of the 25th anniversary of September 11.
